Trekking is the bread and butter of every Raid the North race. Total trekking in a race can range from 30 kms to 50 to 60 kms, depending on the type of terrain. This is where you really get to experience the wilderness. Although the terrain you will be trekking through can vary from snowy alpine regions to dense forests, to swampy lowlands you will always go through a significant off-trail section where navigation will be critical. Every Raid the North race so far has seen at least one team get lost enough to require our Search and Rescue crews to bring them back to civilization. Your pace will be slower than you expect, you will be wet from stream crossings, swamps or snow and frustrated from the branches tearing at your clothes but you will truly be experiencing the wilderness. This is often the 'make or break' section of the race.
