Canoeing sections can vary from long paddles down river, to a series of portages to link together remote lakes (the portages don't always have trails either). Depending on the difficulty of the terrain, teams could be paddling anywhere from 20 to 35 kms. We provide all canoes, typically 16' or 17' touring canoes, as well as canoe paddles, although competitors are free to bring their own paddles. Canoe sections rarely include any whitewater canoeing and there are never any dark zones to avoid. Races in the eastern parts of Canada will typically have more involved canoe sections because of the abundance of lakes and rivers.
