As you may know, Frontier's race philosophy involves discovering
new areas and providing completely new courses and experiences
each year. This means we spend a good part of September through
December scouting and negotiating with new locations. Of course,
this also means the schedule is quite different each year.
At this time, we are working with all potential host site
locations, and working to avoid date conflicts with other race
organizations in Canada and internationally, to assemble our
2006 schedule. As soon as we have firm information, it will be
made public. We don't keep anything 'secret' once something's
finalized! Our objective is always to release the bulk of our
schedule by early December.
After a year's hiatus, we're thrilled to be bringing Raid the
North Extreme (RTNX) back for 2006. In building our
schedule, we give priority consideration to the international
expedition racing schedule, as we try to fit RTNX in among the
other key international races. This year, with the AR World
Championship taking place in August in Sweden, we're trying to
find a date for RTNX in September.
Normally, our first Raid the North (RTN) takes place in
June, usually in Ontario. In Western Canada, we often settle on
an early-mid August date, in an attempt to avoid conflict with
the many other races happening in June and early July. Due to
the low interest in our RTN Canadian Championship the last two
years, we will not be hosting this race in 2006.
The Salomon Adventure Challenge (SAC) schedule will
remain similar to past years, featuring the often sold-out May
kick off event in Ontario and a mid-season long course race also
in Ontario. We're working to bring back an SAC to Alberta in
early summer (late May?), and to Quebec mid-summer. The popular
SAC Canadian Championship event will happen in September in
Ontario.
Meanwhile, join us for the Winter
Salomon Adventure Challenge on January 21 at Mansfield Outdoor
Centre. Snowshoe, XC Ski, Mountain Bike, and Toboggan your
way through a 35 km course - it's always a good time, and this
year the after-party is not to be missed. Only $295 for the
lucky first 30 teams that register on November 14!
Look forward to seeing you out next year!
